Beach Break Live Festival 2010

NONSTOP at Beach Break Live 2010

Recently NONSTOP's Adam was lucky enough to attend the annual student-only festival that is Beach Break Live. Here are his experiences...

I was lucky enough to be invited along to this year's Beach Break Live to check things out, and what a day it was! The week-long festival was located in the stunning Pembrey country park in south Wales. Revellers were just a five minute walk from the beach and there was plenty to do during the day, before watching some great bands and DJs in the evening. With an expected 15,000 students attending, BBL this year was the biggest one yet and the popularity will surely grow when people find out what an awesome event it really is.

On Day 1 of the festival, skiers and snowboarders from universities all over the country were invited to sign up and thrown down in a freestyle competition organised by fellow students, taking place on the dry ski slope inside the country park. The jumps and the landings were all fashioned from man-made snow, shipped all the way from Milton Keynes SNO!zone and, despite the sunny weather, the features all held up well and allowed us to witness some promising freestyle skiers and riders giving it their best to impress the judges.

There was some strong competition from universities far and wide but the guys who really impressed were the skier and snowboarder two man team from Manchester university who can no doubt be found at Chill factor on the weekends perfecting their flips and spins, which they so deftly threw down.

The day was a great success and a lot of praise needs to go to the guys who masterminded the competition set up and worked so hard to make it all happen. Shifting that much snow isn’t easy and it was all in the name of entertainment and snow sports, so well done guys. A special thanks from NONSTOP goes to Tiggy Grafton who was instrumental in organising the event and ensuring the smooth running on the day.

We would also like to thank everyone who came and had a chat with us at the NONSTOP tent on the first day of the festival. It was a pleasure to talk to so many ski and snowboard enthusiasts and we hope you guys will consider joining us in Canada in future for some mountain play time!

If you are a student and you were not able to get along to Beach Break Live this year, I would seriously recommend you give it a look next summer. The line up and the event were awesome and I can only imagine this student festival will go from strength to strength each year that passes!
