Fernie 3 week instructor course - week 3

Here's a final week blog from the 3 week instructor course in Fernie (sorry, it's running a little late!). Thanks to Keith for putting this one together...

Week 3 was the most memorable to date - we had it all - highs and lows...

Not least of all the temperature changes to plus 2 from Minus 25 in a couple days !!

Level 1 instructors evaluation began and had even the most laid back people in the group showing some nerves - in 2 non-stop weeks everyone had already invested a lot physically and emotionally. It brought the best out of the whole NONSTOP group - there was great support, not just from course leaders and within own groups, but also between skiers and boarders and improvers and instructors. It was really nice to be a part of a group that had bonded so well (thanks to you all).

3 days of CASI level 1 instructors evaluation meant more hard work, more fun, more study and all that meant the result was more important.

I took on this course as part of a holiday and wouldn't have changed a thing regardless of the result....

The tension mounted as we waited for the results - staff, improvers and instructors all gathered in the Griz following our last instructions to the letter "pass or fail - drink some ale". First to find out were the skiers and with a 100% pass rate the celebrations well and truly started an after an agonising wait the snowboarders all came out with a pass too - 100% for the whole group!!

Thursday and the celebrations continued with a classic Fernie powder day..... Epic celebrations - we rode all day till we dropped with smiles so big they hurt !!!!! (so much for a rest day) Friday was Cat ski day and everyone was up early and on the bus before first light, with all the snow we'd had, everyone was pretty excited..... Unfortunately there was TOO MUCH SNOW !! Fernie wilderness declared the area unsafe. All ready to go we hit the slopes instead and inspite of warm temperatures and rain at base we sought out the infamous toilet bowl and had great fun pulling all sorts of crazy jumps into beautiful deep, deep Pow Pow for half of the day!

Saturday was leaving day and time to say goodbye, leaving behind amongst other things a beautiful ski town, awesome hill those who had already landed instructor jobs!

Great memories!!
