Yoga for skiers and snowboarders

Our longer courses are often filled with people on gap years, career breaks or career changes, and it's always great to hear how people get on after they leave the NONSTOP academy.  We've just heard from Sarah Thompson, who recently  completed our 6 week "MTM" off-piste camp. After leaving her finance career behind, she's now building up her own yoga class and clothing business.

With such a love of the mountains, it's no surprise that Sarah has created a yoga class specifically for skiers and snowboarders. So, if you're around London this coming weekend, why not book up. Here's the bumph:

Whilst the calm of the yoga mat may seem like the opposite of the adrenaline of the slopes, both skiing/snowboarding and yoga demand strength, balance, flexibility and mental focus. Practising yoga both before and during your ski holiday will prepare and balance the body, helping to prevent injury and enabling you to make the most of your time on the mountain.

This two-hour workshop will focus upon:

    • Using dynamic flow to build muscular energy and strength, including specific core-activation exercises to assist turning and balance.

 

    • Exploring lower body alignment, including counter-postures to address common muscular imbalances and hip-openers to assist angulation.

 

    • Simple, restorative yoga to release tension from legs, spine and shoulders, facilitating recovery.



A handout of suggestions for a simple pre- and post- skiing practice will be available to all participants.
