Fernie Three Week Course - Week One
This week saw the first arrivals of the season in Fernie. I picked up the crew in Calgary, the majority took a little while clearing immigration but eventually we all loaded into the bus. A few hours later we reached Fernie, home for the season. It was fantastic to see our early arrivals had formed a welcoming party as we got into town...
The first day kicked off with an early start. Quick breakfast moved on right away with the first tech session, a briefing on the latest and greatest in outerwear and equipment along with recommendations on how and what the Pro team are rocking this winter. We jumped on the bus up to the resort, and after a brief tour of village it was straight up on the slopes.
Late November Saw A Pretty Heavy Storm Pass Through Fernie Brigning Lots Of Snowfall
Our Pros and Nonstop family joined our new arrivals for a welcome dinner at The Red Tree Lodge. We have a new chef team in the kitchen who were ready to impress our latest arrivals. After dinner, the majority of the group came to cheer on myself and Mark Sawyer in our weekly game of ice hockey.
There were four lessons throughout the week to help work our new athletes into season shape. Our snowboard technical director, James, ran a second tech session - this time teaching the gang to tune and wax their gear. The crew had a night out together enjoying some boozy bingo at The Northern, one of the pubs in town. This weekly event always proves popular with the Nonstoppers, we're sure they will be back!
An Awesome Evening To Try Out Curling
We also took on a night of curling this week. A new experience for most, lots of fun sliding granite rocks down slippery ice, with those landing closest in the house (the big red and blue circles) rewarded with points. Typically (and unfortunately for one) the night ended with some minor first aid due the dealing with the slippery ice.
Aiming For The House
We finished the week with a team après party at the Griz Bar after our last lesson of the week with our Pros, and were joined by some more Nonstop teammates.
