Get Ready for Winter

This November Nonstop will be running two four day (5 night) ski camps in the Alps. Our Technical Director, Jens Mende, will be travelling over from Canada to deliver these coaching camps which are designed to get you ready for the winter ahead ensuring you get the most out of your season.

As Jens explains in his blog below, any ski pro (whether instructor or athlete) seeking to progress their skills, spends time working on the fundamentals before the season gets started. We want to offer our Nonstop clients a similar opportunity so that they can squeeze more progression and enjoyment from the winter ahead, whether they're joining us in Canada for a ski camp or heading to the Alps with friends.

The coaching

Jens has designed this camp to fine tune your technique using the fantastic Zermatt groomers where you'll focus on the fundamentals, setting you up for a great season. Long wide groomers are the perfect way to start your winter strongly.

Jens' coaching will be focused on your own personal improvement with outcomes based on carving skills, short radius, increasing speed and building confidence in fall-line skiing.

  • Après video feedback sessions will be provided daily.
  • Coach to instructor ratio of 6:1

Zermatt

Zermatt offers some of the best and most reliable early season conditions in the Alps. We'll be skiing on the beautiful Italian side of the Zermatt Glacier with the Matterhorn in the back drop.

We've chosen the town of Breuil-Cervinia as our base. With plenty of great ski shops, restaurants and bars, and surrounded by awesome peaks, this is a special town to enjoy a short ski break.

Accommodation

We've selected the cosy Hotel Mignon as our base for the camp - located in the centre of Breuil-Cervinia and a short walk from the ski lift.

A traditional mountain chalet with super comforatble rooms, a restaurant serving traditional Italian home cooking and a finely stocked cellar, this is the perfect place to reflect on a great days skiing.

wHY DID WE CREATE THE CERVINIA CAMP?

reflections from Jens Mende, Nonstop's Technical Director

Wow, I've been frothing for the past few weeks watching the Southern Hemisphere go off. Yet another meter in Chile, after a 2m dump. NZ and Aus are seeing great early season conditions with more snow in the forecast. Hopefully you're there taking in some fresh lines while the rest of us anxiously count down the days to glide on snow again. Hold the phone, the Nonstop Cervina Camp is only 4 months away!

Much of my skiing inspiration comes from the people I get to ski and teach with in Nonstop lessons. Just like the pros, our guests are there to improve, we just want to get "more better". Equally, the best skiers in the world strive to shave micro seconds off of their times, they strive for improvement, they just want to get "more better".

For the past 25+ ski seasons my winter begins at Lake Louise in Banff on what is affectionately known as the Wiwaxy 500, a green pisted run. I love starting the winter season this way, getting reacquainted with the gear, finding centre and loving the feeling of gliding. It's not technical on these early days, it's about regaining confidence, waking up the senses, connecting mind, body and equipment, this is how I get "more better".

I'm not alone at this annual ritual, I am joined by the like's of Mark Impey, our Red Mountain program director, members of the Canadian CSIA Demonstration Team,Wendy McIntyre, Jonathan Squires, (Nonstop Fernie Coaches) Wendy Read (RCR Snow School Director) and about 40 other level IV ski pros from Western Canada that all want to get... "more better".

Despite the absence of black runs or powder bowls waiting to be slain, our season starts out on a super mellow green run. Every National ski team athlete in the world, even the best of the best, will spend time on mellow terrain during the summer and fall (autumn) to prepare for the competition season so they can get..."more better".

After a few days gliding on mellow terrain I feel confident and dialed, ready to take on everything Fernie has to humble me with. My physical and mental capacities are starting to connect, I am also ready to take on and develop technical performance.

Nonstop wants to give you this very unique opportunity to start your season the same way the top pros and the best athletes in the world do. Whether your joining us in Canada, creating your own European ski adventure or just want to get an early season tune up. The Annual Cervina Camp will become the way to start your season, "more better".

Hope to ski with you soon and catch up over some amazing Italian "cibo & vino".
Jens
