CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor CourseFernie, Canada - 3 Weeks

First Step On The Ladder

This ski instructor course in Fernie is one of our most popular programs, and with good reason! Fernie is one of our favourite mountains in Canada, if not the world. This fast track to gaining your CSIA Level 1 qualification is great for relatively confident skiers.

Resort

Amazing terrain, great snow record and friendly vibe...we could rant on all day with reasons to visit Fernie Alpine Resort. Our company was created as a result of our love of this amazing place. Five bowls filled with a massive variety of challenging terrain, a snow record that is off the chart and hardly any lift lines.

Fernie is the perfect resort to push the boundaries of your skiing and get your CSIA Level 1. If you want to ski powder this winter, without fighting for fresh lines before they all go, Fernie is the place to be. Renowned for "legendary powder", there is an average 48cms of snowfall every week that the resort is open. It doesn't get any better than that!

The charming old mining town combines a chilled out friendly vibe with fun and lively nightlife.

Coaching

We established Nonstop in Fernie in 2002 and most of our team have been with us since the very beginning. Our dedicated and highly skilled Level 3 and 4 CSIA coaches know exactly how to provide the perfect training experience.

Over a relatively short period of time we will completely transform your technique and will have you confidently skiing the whole mountain, with the style and grace of an instructor.

By the time you reach your exams in the final week of the course, you'll have the skills necessary to pass on your newly refined technique to others.

Qualifications

You'll be working towards your CSIA Level 1 qualification during the course, the first step on the ladder. Although this is a great stepping stone to the Canadian ski instructor industry, many people come on this course without any plans to become a ski instructor. We will drastically improve your skiing technique and confidence around the whole mountain.

By learning how to teach, analyse and correct skiing from the ground up, you'll be able to progress your own skiing even after the course has finished.

Weekends & Activities

Although you'll be spending a lot of time exploring Fernie's amazing ski area, there's so much else that we'll help your to squeeze into you three weeks. In the evenings we'll organise technical sessions and loads of social events, such as trips to see the local ice hockey team.

Plus, we can also get you on an avalanche safety course and a cat-skiing day (where you'll ski fresh backcountry snow all day!).

Course Milestones It will be an action-packed 3 weeks... here's how it'll go down!
Kick Off
Meet the Nonstop ski pros over breakfast followed by an equipment advice session. Ease yourself in with a guided free-ski before we meet for drinks and dinner together.
Week 1
While exploring Fernie’s amazing snow and terrain, the initial focus will be on developing your personal technique, and ironing out any bad habits. Challenge your new mates on the curling rink.
First Tracks
On our “First Tracks” morning you’ll ride the chairlift before the resort opens to public. The mountain is calm, the slopes empty, and its all yours to enjoy.
Week 2
Your own skiing will continue to develop and we’ll start to introduce teaching skills and explain the CSIA’s student progression. Explore Fernie’s forest trails on an evening snow-bike trip.
Cat Skiing
An optional day skiing untouched powder with your new mates and a guide. Similar to heli skiing but using a snow cat, this will possibly be the highlight of your trip.
Week 3
Assessment time but no stress, you’re well prepared. The level 1 exam both develops and tests your skills and with a typical 100% pass rate you’ll smash it. Time to celebrate in the Griz Bar!
Post Course
If you have time, there are usually options to extend your stay and if you have a Canadian work visa you could end up instructing at a local ski school.
