It is with a heavy heart that I write this, my final blog! It’s clichéd to say but the time has flown by unbelievably fast! In a fitting end to the most phenomenal few months, Week 11 has seen us ski and party harder than ever.
The main event this week was the hotly contested Ski-X competition, staged on the remnants of the Monster Energy Border-X course left over from the previous week. Four skiers would leave at once, racing towards the first corner in search of glory. However, there would be only one winner in each heat. In fact, there would often only be one skier finishing the race at all… Strong friendships may have been forged over these past weeks but that was often all forgotten once the starting bell was heard.
After a final (and pretty lengthy) après session on Thursday it was time for our last dinner and end of season awards. Though I didn’t win anything (travesty of justice much?!) it was a truly awesome evening of partying with our instructors, watching the slideshow of pictures from throughout the season, and spending some time with each other before the big bad shuttle bus came to take us away.
We’ve called this small town home for nearly three months and I have no doubt that we will all miss it hugely. Whilst there is no doubt that our skiing has improved immeasurably, these 11 weeks have been about so much more than just that. We’ve been lucky enough to try things such as heli skiing, curling, winter camping, back country skiing, snow shoe hiking, yoga, snowmobiling, avalanche safety training and so much more. Even more than this, we’ve made great friends and shared experiences that will be remembered for a lifetime. Nonstop Fernie 15/16 I salute you!
