Step 2: Read our Serre Chevalier Travel Guide, which includes info on travel options and airport transfers.
Step 3: Finalise your travel dates and book your flights.
Step 4: Complete our Travel Survey to let us know your plans. You’ll need your Booking ID, which you can find in your confirmation email.

Insurance

It is essential that you purchase suitable insurance cover for your course; remember YOU need to check the policy wording to make sure it gives the cover you need. If you are coming from overseas this will mean a full travel insurance package, if you are coming from France then this will mean a package that covers curtailment, valuables etc.

For a 1 week course like this most insurance policies with winter sports will cover what you need.

Things to consider:

Off-piste / Backcountry cover

Frustratingly not all insurance companies have the same definition for “off-piste” which means that you must do thorough research to ensure that you’re covered. On this  course you’ll be skiing on piste and off piste, within the resort, plus in the backcountry. You’ll always be with a fully certified guide.

What will you receive if you lose your equipment?

It’s important to take into consideration two factors. One, what is the total amount paid out in the event of loss of baggage (e.g. £2000) and two, what is the single item cover amount? Your skis are considered one item and if they are worth £500 and your single item cover is only £250 you will be in for a shock when you claim for the full amount! The total amount is what the company will go up to, comprised of the combined amount of all single items claimed for.

What is the cancellation cover?

It is worth noting how much you will get back should you have to cancel your course (before it has started). Some will pay 50% some will pay 100%. Make sure you understand exactly how much your policy will cover and in what scenarios.

It is important that all our participants understand that Nonstop cannot provide any refunds in the event of an injury that prevents them completing their course.

How much will you get back should you get injured while abroad and not be able to complete the course?

This part is vital and needs careful consideration. One company we asked said they would pay £75 per day! Sounds good hey? But they followed it up by saying £75 a day up to £450. So basically you get money for a total of six days. If you get hurt on the first day that leaves 3 weeks you will not receive money for. Some companies will cover you for more than this but it will come at a cost. The more cover you want, the more you will have to pay for it.

Once you have taken out travel insurance, please send a copy to snowsupport@nonstopsnow.com so that we have it on file in case we need to help you out in a medical emergency.

Equipment

Packing for life in the mountains can feel overwhelming — especially when you want to be prepared without overloading your luggage. But don’t worry — we’re here to help. And once you arrive, you’ll quickly figure out what works best to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable, both on the slopes and around town.

To help you get started, we’ve put together a full gear checklist with practical tips in our Equipment Guide — plus a snapshot of the essentials below, whether you’re bringing your own kit or planning to buy in resort.

You can rent touring gear from Brechu Sports.

Ski Kit
  • Skis + Bindings + Poles
Either start the week on your Touring kit or go for an all-mountain ski for maximum versatility — something in the wider range for extra float in powder, without sacrificing adaptability on groomers and mixed terrain
  • Ski Boots
Professionally-fitted boots are a priority for both comfort and performance
  • Googles
An interchangeable lens system is advised — covering low light, cloud, and bright conditions
  • Helmet
A must for safety — warm, lightweight, and designed to protect against impacts. Check goggle compatibility for a secure, comfortable fit.
  • Backpack
For carrying extra layers, gear, snacks, or anything you need on the mountain
Check the Equipment Guide for more detailed tips.
Avalanche Gear
  • Transceiver
A critical safety device that helps you quickly locate others in a backcountry emergency
  • Probe
A lightweight, extendible pole for pinpointing buried objects beneath the snow
  • Shovel
Durable and lightweight, essential for avalanche rescue and snow management
You will be required to carry your avalanche gear everyday — not just for the backcountry trip. You do not need an air bag — this is purely a personal choice.
Slope Apparel
  • Base Layers
Merino wool base layers are ideal — warm, breathable, and naturally odour-resistant
  • Mid Layer
A light fleece or synthetic layer worn over your base for added warmth
  • Insulating Layer
A thicker fleece or down puffy — essential for cold days and layering versatility
  • Ski Jacket / Shell
A waterproof, breathable outer layer to keep you dry and protected from the elements
  • Ski Pants
Waterproof and breathable pants designed for snow, wind, and durability on the mountain
  • Ski Socks
Three or four pairs. Go for well-fitting, thinner socks — better than thick, bulky ones. A merino wool–synthetic blend is ideal for warmth and breathability.
  • Mitts or Gloves
Two pairs are optimal in case one gets wet or goes missing. Mitts are warmer than gloves, but having both gives you flexibility for changing conditions.
  • Liner Gloves
Thin, lightweight gloves for extra warmth — touchscreen-compatible fingertips make them great for using your phone without freezing your hands
  • Neck Tube
A versatile, breathable fabric tube essential for cold, windy, or snowy days — great for neck and face protection on the mountain
  • Hat/beanie
Essential for keeping your head warm off the slopes — choose something stylish and snug
Backcountry Trip
  • Touring Skis
Skis equipped with touring bindings for uphill travel and downhill skiing. Can be rented in resort.
  • Touring Boots
Skiers can use regular downhill boots but the ankle does not flex so it is harder to tour in. It is best to get a “slackcountry” boot which has a plastic DIN sole that will work properly in a frame binding but also has a flexible ankle. Touring type boots have rubber sole and do not work well with frame bindings but work with tech bindings. Can be rented in resort.
  • Touring Skins
Adhesive skins that a. ttach to the base of your skis or splitboard, providing grip for uphill climbing. Can be rented in resort/
  • Ski Crampons (Couteaux)
Can be rented if you are planning to rent touring skis/boots/skins, etc.
  • Personal First Aid Kit
Compeed blister plasters, any personal medication, etc.
  • Lightweight Gloves
Thin, lightweight gloves for uphill climbs
  • Sunglasses
  • Headlamp / Torch
Hands-free lighting for early starts or late finishes in low light
  • Water Bottle / Camelback
    Minimum 1.5 litres
  • Casual Clothing + Slippers / Shoes
  • Pajamas
  • Toothbrush + Toothpaste
  • Sleeping Bag Liner
Called a “sac à viande” or a “drap-sac” in French, Available for very reasonable price in Decathlon in Briançon if you don't take one with you
  • Microfibre Towel
    If you intend to shower
  • Earplugs
A must have for light sleepers
  • Suncream
  • Euros
Extra drinks/snacks are not included and the hut may not take card
  • Mobile Phone + Charger
The weather conditions can be wide-ranging. Please pack clothing that allows for strenuous exercise (possessing wicking, insulating properties). No laundry facilities are present at the hut; please take this into account when packing.
