How do I become a ski instructor?

The first step to becoming a ski or snowboard instructor is earning a qualification from a recognised body like CSIA/CASI, BASI, or NZSIA. Each system has several levels that take you from entry-level instructor to elite expert — Level 1 gets you started, Level 2 is the benchmark for teaching internationally, and Levels 3 and 4 open the door to advanced coaching and mastery.

Nonstop instructor courses are built to get you there with training towards your Level 1, 2 or 3. With over 20 years of experience and grads teaching all over the world, we’ll set you up for success with pro coaching, workshops, and CV-boosting experiences. And it’s not just about the qualifications — you’ll sharpen your all-mountain game, ride with a great crew, and live the full mountain lifestyle.

Who comes on a ski instructor course?

Our instructor courses attract adventurous, like-minded people who love skiing, snowboarding, travel, and leveling up their skills — whether it’s to earn global instructor qualifications and chase a snow career, or simply push their riding on a gap year or career break.

The typical age range is 18–35, though older participants join too, and group makeup varies by resort. Most guests come solo, and everyone leaves with new friends and a shared adventure under their belt.

How good do I need to be to join a Nonstop instructor course?

Where is the best place to train as a ski instructor?

You can train all over the world — from Canada to NZ — with each destination serving up its own flavour both on and off the mountain. Canada and Europe are our top picks for the broadest training and strong job prospects, while New Zealand is an awesome option for a southern hemisphere season with a one-of-a-kind mountain culture.

With Nonstop, you could find yourself in Fernie — a laid-back powder town with some of the deepest snow in North America; Banff — a buzzing mountain hub with three resorts on your doorstep and nightlife to match; or Les 2 Alpes — a high-altitude alpine playground with legendary freestyle zones and all the energy of European ski culture. Every rider’s different, but between our courses we’ve got a season to suit any vibe and style — all while picking up top qualifications along the way.

What ski instructor qualifications are available?

There are many national organisations that certify ski and snowboard instructors, each offering a pathway of respected qualifications. The most popular systems include CSIA/CASI (Canada), BASI (UK), and NZSIA (New Zealand), all structured in Levels 1–4 that represent a progression in skills and knowledge.

Nonstop instructor courses are built to get you there. Whether it’s CSIA/CASI Levels 1, 2, and 3 or BASI Levels 1 and 2, we’ll set you up with the coaching and support to nail your exams — and give you a season packed with progression, adventure, and the kind of memories that stick.

Which ski instructor qualification is best?

The right qualification for you depends on your goals — and where in the world you’d like to teach. The most popular systems are CSIA/CASI (Canada), BASI (UK), and NZSIA (New Zealand). Each offers an internationally respected pathway with solid global recognition and strong job prospects.

All offer an achievable entry-level where you can begin working, while leaving plenty of room to progress toward the top tiers, which are set to a very high standard. And don’t worry — you’re never pigeonholed into one system. It’s common to cross over between associations as your career and travel plans evolve.

Where can I teach once I’m qualified?

In short — almost anywhere. With a Level 2 qualification from CSIA/CASI, BASI, or NZSIA, you’ll have international recognition and the ability to work in resorts across the northern and southern hemispheres. Popular destinations include Canada, the USA, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Andorra, Italy, and Switzerland, with plenty more on the list.

The main exception is France, which has its own pathway and is known for being a long and challenging route.

Which Nonstop instructor course is for me?

We run three flagship courses across Canada and France — in Fernie, Banff, and Les 2 Alpes. Each has its own flavour, so the right one for you comes down to the kind of season you want. Weigh up big features like the terrain you’ll ride, snow history, après scene and activities on offer, as well as qualifications and culture.

If you’re a powder hound chasing deep days and progression in a small, authentic mountain town, Fernie is the one — Canadian quals included. If you want varied riding with three resorts on your doorstep, plus a party scene that goes as hard as the skiing, Banff ticks the box. And if your dream is a Euro season — think British qualifications, glacier laps, and a buzzing alpine culture — Les 2 Alpes is calling.

Whichever way you go, you’ll get world-class coaching, a season of adventures, and a crew that feels like family by the end.
