How do I become a ski instructor?

The first step to becoming a ski or snowboard instructor is earning a qualification from a recognised body like CSIA/CASI, BASI, or NZSIA. Each system has several levels that take you from entry-level instructor to elite expert — Level 1 gets you started, Level 2 is the benchmark for teaching internationally, and Levels 3 and 4 open the door to advanced coaching and mastery.

Nonstop instructor courses are built to get you there with training towards your Level 1, 2 or 3. With over 20 years of experience and grads teaching all over the world, we’ll set you up for success with pro coaching, workshops, and CV-boosting experiences. And it’s not just about the qualifications — you’ll sharpen your all-mountain game, ride with a great crew, and live the full mountain lifestyle.

What can I expect from an instructor internship?

Our instructor internships are a fast-track into the ski industry — training and working as an instructor in one epic winter. You’ll get pro coaching, certifications, a paid instructor job, accommodation for the season, and a crew of like-minded mates.

The program kicks off with focused training to get your Level 1 certification while developing your riding and teaching skills. Once qualified, you’ll join a local ski school as a rookie instructor, teaching. Put yourself out there, show passion, and jump into any extra training sessions — it’s the best way to keep progressing. The work is challenging, dynamic, and hugely rewarding — nothing beats the buzz of helping someone link their first turns.

Outside work, there’s plenty of time to freeride, head on road trips with mates, and soak up the full seasonaire lifestyle. By the end of the program, you’ll have a season’s worth of experience, connections, and further training under your belt — setting you up to chase a global career as an instructor.

Who comes on an instructor internship?

Our internship programs are designed for like-minded riders with a passion for skiing, snowboarding, travel, and adventure — ready to qualify and work as instructor, all in one winter.

They’re popular with riders on a gap year looking for an adventurous and focussed winter before, after, or even during uni (for example, as part of a sports degree placement), or anyone aiming to kickstart a dream career as a global instructor. Most participants are 18–30, with working holiday visa eligibility often capped at around 30–35 years depending on your country.

How good do I need to be to join an instructor internship?

Our instructor internships are designed for a range of abilities, from strong intermediate to expert. With just a few weeks of Nonstop coaching before you qualify and begin work as an instructor, you must consider yourself a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder as a minimum.

If you’re unsure, check out our Ability Guide or reach out to our team — we’re happy to advise.

How do I apply for an instructor internship?

To apply, you must first secure (or have applied for) a working visa and be a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder.

Next, register your interest with us — we’d love to hear about your plans and goals for the season. We’ll then ask for a cover letter and CV detailing your ski/snowboard experience, plus any other relevant skills and experiences, such as teaching, sports coaching, leadership, etc.

After that, we’ll arrange preliminary phone/video chat — relaxed and friendly. Once your place is secured with a deposit, you’ll have a video interview with the Snow School Director to meet, ask questions, and get excited for the season.

Do I need a working visa for an instructor internship?

Yes — to legally work in your chosen country, you’ll need a valid work visa or permit.

Before applying for one of our internships, you must have either secured your visa or started the application process. Got questions about how it works? Get in touch — we’re happy to guide you.
