How do I become a ski instructor?

The first step to becoming a ski or snowboard instructor is earning a qualification from a recognised body like CSIA/CASI, BASI, or NZSIA. Each system has several levels that take you from entry-level instructor to elite expert — Level 1 gets you started, Level 2 is the benchmark for teaching internationally, and Levels 3 and 4 open the door to advanced coaching and mastery.

Nonstop instructor courses are built to get you there with training towards your Level 1, 2 or 3. With over 20 years of experience and grads teaching all over the world, we’ll set you up for success with pro coaching, workshops, and CV-boosting experiences. And it’s not just about the qualifications — you’ll sharpen your all-mountain game, ride with a great crew, and live the full mountain lifestyle.

How good do I need to be to join a Nonstop instructor course?

Our instructor courses are designed for a range of levels from intermediate to expert, with ability-based groups so you’re riding alongside people at a similar level and chasing similar goals.

As a baseline, you should be comfortable on groomed terrain with strong intermediate technique. Check individual Course Pages for specific requirements and use our Ability Guide to see where you fit. If you’re unsure, just reach out — our team will help you find the right course.

How many people come on a Nonstop instructor course?

You’ll be part of a buzzing crew, riding and learning alongside a group of like-minded skiers and snowboarders. Course size varies — our flagship courses feature 20–60 riders, with our long courses in Fernie and Banff welcoming 40–60, and Les 2 Alpes around 20–30.

Coaching takes place in small groups of no more than eight riders per coach, matched by ability and goals. Off the slopes, the whole crew comes together for après, group meals, socials, and activities — so you get focused coaching plus a full social experience.

Is a ski instructor course suited to a gap year or career break?

Absolutely. Whether or not you plan to use the qualifications, training as an instructor is the perfect way to push your skiing to the max, live life in the mountains, and meet a crew of like-minded riders.

Alongside qualification prep, we focus on developing your freeride and all-mountain skills, giving you fundamentals that will keep improving your riding for years to come. A season of unforgettable experiences is all-but guaranteed, with certifications as a bonus — and a door open to future work as an instructor if you choose.

What can I expect from a ski instructor course?

No matter your goal, our instructor courses are designed to take your skiing or snowboarding to the next level — with pro coaching and world-recognised qualifications. You’ll spend the season riding every day with pro coaches and a crew of like-minded mates, developing your skills and soaking up the carefree seasonaire lifestyle.

As well as landing recognised qualifications, you’ll level up your freeride technique, deepen your knowledge of the sport, and be guided through mountain life. From cat-skiing in the backcountry to chasing powder on epic road trips, there’s no shortage of adventure. With your accommodation, meals, and season pass all part of one dialed package — you can focus on riding, learning, and having a blast.

Where is the best place to train as a ski instructor?

You can train all over the world — from Canada to NZ — with each destination serving up its own flavour both on and off the mountain. Canada and Europe are our top picks for the broadest training and strong job prospects, while New Zealand is an awesome option for a southern hemisphere season with a one-of-a-kind mountain culture.

With Nonstop, you could find yourself in Fernie — a laid-back powder town with some of the deepest snow in North America; Banff — a buzzing mountain hub with three resorts on your doorstep and nightlife to match; or Les 2 Alpes — a high-altitude alpine playground with legendary freestyle zones and all the energy of European ski culture. Every rider’s different, but between our courses we’ve got a season to suit any vibe and style — all while picking up top qualifications along the way.

Which Nonstop instructor course is for me?

We run three flagship courses across Canada and France — in Fernie, Banff, and Les 2 Alpes. Each has its own flavour, so the right one for you comes down to the kind of season you want. Weigh up big features like the terrain you’ll ride, snow history, après scene and activities on offer, as well as qualifications and culture.

If you’re a powder hound chasing deep days and progression in a small, authentic mountain town, Fernie is the one — Canadian quals included. If you want varied riding with three resorts on your doorstep, plus a party scene that goes as hard as the skiing, Banff ticks the box. And if your dream is a Euro season — think British qualifications, glacier laps, and a buzzing alpine culture — Les 2 Alpes is calling.

Whichever way you go, you’ll get world-class coaching, a season of adventures, and a crew that feels like family by the end.
