Full Course Story 2 Weeks in Fernie, Canada

Our Tour + Explore Backcountry Snowboard Camp is a full-throttle adventure built for riders who dream of untouched lines and deep powder days. Set in the rugged spines of British Columbia — a region known for its blower snow, steep faces, and massive terrain — this is your chance to ride beyond the resort and into the wild.

Based out of Fernie, a true Powder Highway classic. You’ll start with two days at the resort getting your freeride legs under you — slashing powder bowls, threading trees, and finding your flow in natural terrain. From there, the journey steps up: an optional day of cat-boarding with Fernie Wilderness Adventures, a splitboarding clinic to work on your uphill manoeuvres, and a backcountry safety workshop to build confidence in avalanche terrain.

After a reset in town, you’ll heli into the Boulder Hut for four unforgettable days of guided touring in the Purcell Mountains — one of BC’s purest backcountry zones. It’s remote, raw, and everything a freerider could ask for: big lines, deep snow, and a cozy off-grid lodge to call home.

When you’re not deep in the wilderness, you’ll stay at our ski lodge in Fernie — the perfect base for crew dinners and downtime. Whether you’re new to splitboarding or already hooked on the backcountry life, this camp delivers progression, adventure, and the kind of stoke that stays with you long after the trip ends.

Arrive in Fernie, settle in, and get your gear dialed. If you’re ready, enjoy some freeskiing at Fernie Alpine Resort to get a feel for the terrain and warm-up for the adventures ahead.

Dive into two days of coaching across Fernie’s five natural bowls. Explore powder fields, trees, and chutes while mastering all-terrain techniques to build confidence for the backcountry.

Experience backcountry terrain while cat-BOARDING with Fernie Wilderness Adventures. Venture into remote powder zones, riding pristine slopes in small groups, with up to 10 drops.

Learn the essentials of splitboarding, including ascent techniques and backcountry navigation. Then, we dive into avalanche safety, practicing terrain assessment, snow stability tests, and peer rescue techniques.

Take the day to freeride, or rest up and enjoy Fernie’s downtown vibe. Pack and prepare for the Boulder Hut trip.

Heli-drop into the remote Boulder Hut for 4 days of immersive backcountry touring in the Purcell Mountains. Enjoy expert guiding and powdery descents through untouched terrain.

Return to Fernie and wrap up your trip with a few more days of freeriding. Ride your favourite zones and enjoy the local culture before heading home with unforgettable memories.

Fernie is a skier’s dream: raw, rugged and endlessly rideable. Home to five legendary alpine bowls – Cedar, Lizard, Currie, Timber and Siberia – this mountain is built for exploration. Whether you're carving groomers or dropping into steep chutes, Fernie serves up some of the most varied and exciting terrain in North America.

Fernie’s snowfall is the stuff of legend. With an average of 10 metres per season, it’s one of the snowiest resorts in the Rockies – and the quality is just as impressive as the quantity. A combination of the horse-shoe shape of the bowls, local weather systems and Pacific fronts are to thank for Fernie’s frequent dumps and feather-light flakes.

Fernie isn’t your typical purpose-built ski resort – it’s a real-deal mountain town full of soul, character, and community. Tucked into the southeast corner of British Columbia and rooted in mining heritage, Fernie is shaped by powder-loving locals who live for the mountain. When it dumps over 20cm, shops have been known to close – because skiing takes priority. Historic downtown adds to the charm, with indie shops, craft coffee spots, a vintage cinema, and a community that welcomes newcomers like old friends.

Fernie’s nightlife strikes a perfect balance: lively when it wants to be, low-key when you need it. The scene spans live bands at The Northern, cocktails at Fernie Distillers, and open mic nights at The Brickhouse. Après is more relaxed than Europe, but still has a strong pulse. At the base of the hill, the Griz Bar is the go-to hangout – pitchers of Kokanee flow, pool tables stay busy, and the sun deck comes alive in spring.

Start with two full days at Fernie Alpine Resort — finding your flow and refining technique in the same kind of terrain you’ll tour later: powder bowls, trees, and natural features. You’ll build confidence, control, and flow — ready to take it into the wilderness.

A full-day avalanche safety clinic delivered on touring gear in Fernie’s slackcountry. You’ll cover theory and practical rescue drills — reading terrain, snowpack assessment, and companion rescue. Real-world learning in real terrain. Whether you’re new to the backcountry or need a refresher, it’s essential groundwork.

Learn the art of earning your turns. Our splitboarding clinic covers gear setup, skinning technique, transitions, pacing climbs, and route finding — plus tips for smooth descents in mixed snow. Expect scenic climbs, untouched powder, and a huge sense of freedom.

Add an optional day of cat-boarding with Fernie Wilderness Adventures — endless powder laps, zero lift lines. The snowcat drops you in the deep for a day of backcountry riding without the uphill slog.

This is the culmination of the experience. Four days at the Boulder Hut — a remote, 15,000-acre playground in the Purcells. Each day brings new lines, deep snow, and total immersion in backcountry life. It’s the ultimate freeride finale — raw, quiet, and unforgettable.
