Already got your Level 1 and looking to take it further? This is your next step. Set in the legendary Fernie Alpine Resort, our 6-week Level 2 course is built for ambitious instructors chasing bigger goals and deeper turns.

Fernie’s terrain is next-level. Five alpine bowls, steep trees, rolling ridgelines, and no shortage of powder — this place is an all-mountain playground. Whether you’re chasing clean arcs on the groomers or charging into the steeps, you’ll be racking up vert, perfecting your technique, and becoming a stronger, more confident rider every day.

At the heart of the course is high-level coaching. Our team of instructors will prep you for your Level 2 exam with focused training that blends advanced ski technique and high-performance teaching. Expect full days on the mountain, detailed feedback, and real progression — both as a skier and instructor.

This isn’t just a course, it’s a full-blown winter experience. You’ll live in the Nonstop lodge, hang with a tight crew, and dive into Fernie’s mountain culture with our MORE Program — gaining extra certs, backcountry skills, and enjoying local socials from hockey nights to Canadian après.

This is your path to Level 2 instructor status — shaped by snow, the crew, and the unique Nonstop rhythm.

Time to raise your game. We kick off with focused training on steeps, moguls, short turns, and all-mountain technique. You’ll deepen your understanding of high-level teaching skills and refine your riding across Fernie’s legendary terrain. One of the biggest highlights of the course — day of cat skiing with Fernie Wilderness Adventures, accessing untouched powder via snowcat.

We double down with advanced coaching to fast-track your improvement. You’ll sharpen both your riding and teaching, with deeper dives into CSIA/CASI Level 2 methodology. There’s the chance to volunteer as a shadow instructor at a local hill — a solid boost for your experience and confidence. Optional freestyle training is also on the table, and we’ll mix in some off-snow adventures like fat biking and a classic Nonstop bonfire night in the woods.

We’re going all in. You’ll head out on a road trip to Castle Mountain, taking your skills to new terrain. Skiers complete two intensive prep modules for the CSIA Level 2 exam, each focused on both skiing and teaching development. Snowboarders will fine-tune their riding and lesson delivery ahead of their four-day assessment. You’ll can also take part in Nonstop’s winter camping experience – building and sleeping in your own igloo for a bucket-list night under the stars.

In the final week, it’s exam time. Skiers sit two days of assessment; snowboarders go four. Once you pass both riding and teaching components, you’ll be certified to teach internationally — from Canada to Japan, New Zealand to Switzerland. We cap it all off with a massive graduation party and send-off dinner to celebrate everything you’ve achieved.

Fernie is a skier’s dream: raw, rugged and endlessly rideable. Home to five legendary alpine bowls – Cedar, Lizard, Currie, Timber and Siberia – this mountain is built for exploration. Whether you're carving groomers or dropping into steep chutes, Fernie serves up some of the most varied and exciting terrain in North America.

Fernie’s snowfall is the stuff of legend. With an average of 10 metres per season, it’s one of the snowiest resorts in the Rockies – and the quality is just as impressive as the quantity. A combination of the horse-shoe shape of the bowls, local weather systems and Pacific fronts are to thank for Fernie’s frequent dumps and feather-light flakes.

Fernie isn’t your typical purpose-built ski resort – it’s a real-deal mountain town full of soul, character, and community. Tucked into the southeast corner of British Columbia and rooted in mining heritage, Fernie is shaped by powder-loving locals who live for the mountain. When it dumps over 20cm, shops have been known to close – because skiing takes priority. Historic downtown adds to the charm, with indie shops, craft coffee spots, a vintage cinema, and a community that welcomes newcomers like old friends.

Fernie’s nightlife strikes a perfect balance: lively when it wants to be, low-key when you need it. The scene spans live bands at The Northern, cocktails at Fernie Distillers, and open mic nights at The Brickhouse. Après is more relaxed than Europe, but still has a strong pulse. At the base of the hill, the Griz Bar is the go-to hangout – pitchers of Kokanee flow, pool tables stay busy, and the sun deck comes alive in spring.

Expect full-day coaching sessions, four days a week, mixing high-performance skiing with instructor development. You’ll refine your own technique — tackling variable snow, steeps, and carving drills — while learning how to teach and manage group dynamics. Video analysis help you dial in the details and train with purpose.

In the run-up to your exam, you’ll have a 1-2-1 coaching session focused on your personal goals. Whether it’s refining a particular skill or reviewing your teaching strategy, it’s a chance to get targeted feedback and ensure you’re fully prepped for success.

You’ll be grouped with other CSIA Level 1-qualified skiers who share the same drive. With 8 skiers per group, there’s loads of one-on-one attention, peer learning, and a tight-knit team vibe as you progress through the training together.

You’ll be guided by our experienced Level 3 and 4 pros — coaches with deep knowledge of the system and a real passion for instructor development. Many are course conductors themselves, so they know exactly what it takes to pass the exam.

You’ll be training for the CSIA Level 2 — a globally respected qualification that certifies you to teach intermediate skiers. The assessment covers both your skiing and teaching ability. Pass both, and you’ll be qualified to work in resorts across Canada and beyond.

If you’re serious about becoming an instructor, we’ll help you stand out. You can work toward extra certifications like freestyle, and gain experience by shadowing local instructors and volunteering on a local community initiative. Industry workshops, mentoring, and guaranteed interviews with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies give you a launchpad for the future.
